Dalam mata kuliah ini akan dibahas hakikat, kebutuhan, dan penerapan inovasi dan difusi pada umumnya serta khususnya dalam dunia pendidikan dan proses pembelajaran, ciri-ciri inovasi, agen pembaharu dan usaha-usahanya. Agar proses difusi dapat berlangsung dengan lancar dan mencapai tujuan, maka dibandingkan berbagai sistem dan saluran komunikasi/informasi serta ciri-cirinya untuk kepentingan difusi inovasi. Juga akan dibahas hal-hal yang mempengaruhi kecepatan difusi inovasi serta dampaknya di dalam dunia pendidikan dan masyarakat. Berbagai masalah pembelajaran yang memerlukan inovasi diidentifikasi dan juga inovasi pembelajaran yang sedang atau dilaksanakan di lembaga pendidikan dievaluasi. Melalui berbagai kajian, diharapkan mahasiswa dapat mengidentifikasi masalah difusi inovasi terkait dengan teknologi pendidikan yang layak dijadikan penelitian untuk penulisan skripsi mahasiswa.
