English Phonetics and Phonology

English Phonetics and Phonology is a core subject, not an elective, in the undergraduate programme at English Language and Literature Study Programme of State University of Jakarta. It discusses the production and structure of English phonemes, both segmental phonemes; vowels, diphthongs, triphthongs, consonants, and consonant clusters, and  suprasegmental phonemes; pitch, juncture, stress, and intonation.  Aspects of connected speech like linking, assimilation, neutralization, and elision are also discussed. Those issues are  designed and presented within the context of improving English pronunciation.
