This course is designed to equip students with the listening skills required in an academic context at the CEFR B1 level. Through a strategy-based approach and the effective and wise use of information and communication technology (ICT), students will practice understanding various types of academic listening texts, such as lectures, discussions, and presentations. Learning materials are sourced from credible digital platforms, including academic podcasts, TED Talks, and online lecture videos. Students will develop critical thinking skills in listening, such as identifying the typical characteristics of academic listening texts, identifying main and supporting ideas, understanding context and technical terms, comparing information from various sources, evaluating the validity of information, drawing conclusions, and analyzing the implications of the material they listen to. Besides critical thinking skills, the materials and activities in this course are also designed to support the development of other 21st-century skills, including creativity, communication, collaboration, citizenship/culture, character education, and ICT literacy.
