This course aims to build reading knowledge and skills at the analytical reading level in standard English at a proficiency level equivalent to CEFR B1+ to enable students to effectively and efficiently understand the messages contained in multi-modal texts that are commonly found in academic contexts. Learning materials include, among other things, the skills of finding explicit and implicit main ideas and supporting information, comparing information from different authors, and evaluating the validity of information. Learning activities include lecture activities, analytical reading practice, and presentation of reading results in small seminars. The final project of the course is in the form of a critical study report/review of scientific books/articles. The materials and activities in this course are also designed to support the development of 21st-century skills, including critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, citizenship/culture, character education, and ICT literacy.
